ParagainingParagaining

The Skyhigh Paragining Challenge combines ideas from Rogaining and online flying competitions. A set of waypoints with associated scores is provided for the Mystic site. Pilots may fly any route they choose and accumulate the points associated with each waypoint they manage to make. Each flight is scored by pilots uploading their tracklogs to the scoring site.

Objective

The pilot’s objective is to accumulate as many points as possible on a given flight. Points are earned by making waypoints. Each waypoint location and score is given and fixed. Hence a pilot must assess the conditions and potential of the weather on the day and make a decision on the best route to maximise their points earned. Paragaining is intended to be a fun event and hence pilots are advised to err on the side of caution.

Rules

  • Rules and regulations according to the ops manual must be adhered to.
  • Local site rules must be adhered to.
  • A pilot is deemed to have made a waypoint if their tracklog records a point within the waypoint’s cylinder. In general each waypoint will have a 400m radius cylinder.
  • Each waypoint has an associated score and the pilot accumulates the score for that waypoint.
  • A waypoint is only counted once per flight. Hence whilst a pilot may cross a waypoint many times, the waypoint’s score is only accumulated once per flight.
